One day more, another day on a busted knee.
This time tomorrow I’ll be under. I’m past the nerves part and just want to get it over with. I got the X-Box up in the bedroom, ESPN 30 for 30 BluRay ready for marathon viewing, Gone Girl downloaded to the Kindle, and a list of stories that I want to write/work on/edit on my laptop. The recovery period is 4-6 months with some pretty intense physical therapy so I’ll be taking one more run tonight and then I’ll go see The Dark Knight Rises and then I’ll pick up some binoculars and move into my bedroom for a week or two and watch out for murder next door, Rear Window style. My wife is taking a month’s worth of classes starting next week so my sister’s coming up to help. But for a lot of my recovery I’ll be alone with the dogs and my laptop. Maybe I’ll build something. A robot or a story. I’ve been thinking of an I Am Legend-style story for kids as part of my Kindle-exclulsive sci-fi series about a kid who uses his imaginary gun to shoot the monsters in his closet only to learn that they view him as a monster. Inspired by yesterday’s post, of course. I also need to finish up The Little Particle That Could (illustrated by Noel Tuazon) and The End Of Stars, which looks like it will be illustrated by Evan Keeling. My original plan was to alternate between illustrated and non-illustrated stories, but I got friends with pens and they’re willing to help so let’s do it right, you know? I also may have something awesome cooking. Fingers crossed and heart’s racing on this one.
Back to surgery, tho. This’ll be my second surgery, the first being a hernia. When I came out that first time, I found that my “wake up” period involves a lot of cursing. The nurse had to politely ask me to stop cursing because there were other patients nearby. I said, “I’m really f’in sorry. Sorry, again.” The only thing I kind of worry about is what I say when I’m going under or coming out because, honestly, I’m pretty filthy off of this blog. Like, really filthy. And I tend to occasionally say filthy things.
So that’s that, I guess. If anyone wants to send me suggestions of what I should read or write or watch or cook over the next 4-6 months please kick them my way. I’m looking at the next couple of months as an excuse to try new things, since running and kung-fu is completely out of the question and they used to take up a lot of my time.
By the time it’s all said and done, I’ll miss close to a year of kung-fu. I got injured about a month after I got my black belt but it’ll be like starting all over again. Oh well…
